Spring Sports & COVID

Many people may have questions or concerns regarding spring sports, COVID, and GCPS going digital. Here are several of the most common questions we receive and the answers to help you make the best decision for your family.

Q1. Will GCPS moving back to digital learning with students impact spring sports with AAA?

A1. The short answer is no.  AAA closely monitors what is going on with GCPS, but the determination of whether, or not, it is safe for our children to participate in Spring sports comes primarily from the Gwinnett/Rockdale /Newton Regional Dept of Health and Gwin Co. Parks & Rec. The outdoor environment of spring sports is much different than the enclosed classrooms and hallways of the schools.

Q2. If we register our child for spring sports and the season is cancelled due to the virus, will we get a refund?

A2. Yes. The amount of the refund will depend on the expenses incurred before the cancellation. The biggest expense any sport incurs in a season are uniforms. There are other expenses such as field maintenance, playing equipment, etc. AAA will not withhold any administrative fees. We will always refund as much money as possible back to families once the financial obligtions of the sport have been met.

Q3. If we register our child now, but decide before evaluations take place that we are not comfortable with our child participating due to COVID risks, will we get a FULL refund of registration fees?

A3. Yes. Simply notify the sport director BEFORE evaluations take place. Refunds can typically be issued within 14 days.

Q4. Does AAA have policies and procedures in place to mitigate the risk of volunteers and participants contracting the virus?

A4. Yes. Click on 'About Us' at the top of the page then select 'COVID 19 Docs' at the bottom of the list to see the 'Return to Play' guidelines for your sport. Or click HERE.

The purpose of recreational team sports is to encourage and promote the physical, social, and emotional well being of the children in our community. AAA is committed to providing these opportunities for our children and volunteers in the safest manner possible. If we are informed by the Health Dept or the Dept of Parks & Rec that it is unsafe to play these sports with our children and volunteers, we will not hesitate to suspend or cancel seasons to protect their health. Until a time comes that we are given that guidance we will continue to provide these important opportunities for the children in our community.

AAA Sports & COVID 19

I am sure that there are many questions, concerns, and uncertainty in the community about the status of our sports programs and the ongoing COVID pandemic.

First, please be assured that the first priority of AAA is to provide a safe environment for the children in our community to enjoy the physical, social, and emotional benefits of participating in team sports activities. If we did not believe that we could provide this level of safety, we would not hesitate to suspend or cancel our sports programs. The AAA Executive Board and Sports Directors have been in close contact with local, state, and national health officials and sports organizations to ensure that we can provide a safe environment for our participants and volunteers.

We believe that we have procedures in place to ensure this safe environment for our sports programs. We will be offering ALL spring sports programs for the children in our community:  baseball, LAX, soccer, and softball.

If you would like to review the specific guidelines and protocols that we have in place for our fall sports, I would encourage you to click on the 'About Us' tab at the top of this page and select 'COVID 19 Docs' to view the policies and procedures that AAA as adopted to provide a safe environment for our children and volunteers.

Please feel free to email any questions, comments, or concerns that you may have to or contact the director of the sport you are interested in participating in.
